ASF is composed of a Satellite Tracking Ground Station as part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ground Network (GN) system, the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Data Center (SDC) in support of NASA’s Earth Science Data and Information System project, and the ASF Enterprise Center (ASFE) in support of UAF’s mission to be a student-centered, research university.
ASF operates two antennas, a 10-meter system and an 11-meter system, for the NASA GN. As the operator of the NASA SDC for almost 20 years, ASF maintains the NASA archive of SAR data from a variety of satellites and aircraft, and provides these data and associated specialty support services to U.S. Government-approved researchers. The ASFE focuses on applications of remote-sensing data, specifically for UAF research and includes the GeoData Center (GDC). The GDC provides data management and archive services for UAF Principal Investigators and maintains a variety of geophysical data collections in support of scientific research
