Coordinated by UArctic member, the Science Diplomacy Center (SDC), GIYSCC-2024 was hosted by Future Earth as a virtual dialogue between Indigenous youths across the globe. The GIYSCC-2023 was originally hosted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research in order to support the idea that Indigenous youth must be centered at the forefront of climate diplomacy, and the newest summit followed that legacy.
The 2024 summit had 35 Indigenous Youth Leaders across three eight-hour time zones who were the decision makers for the three separate agendas and invitees. With all three dialogues, the summit circled the earth for a total of 24 hours. There were contributions from Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and inclusion from the Arctic and Oceania.
Three eight-hour videos of the three region's virtual summits are available to watch online and can be accessed from the SDC website, or on the Future Earth YouTube channel.
Beyond GIYSCC-2024, Global Indigenous Youth Leaders are now inviting chapter contributions in an anticipated volume being published as part of the Springer book series covering topics on informed decision-making for sustainability. This call for submissions has been extended until September 30, 2024. More information for this call can be found from the SDC page covering GIYSCC-2024.
