Beginning in September, Laura Ditto has come to Rovaniemi to work with the Finnish US Embassy and the UArctic International Secretariat as the American Arctic Connection intern. This internship, part of a collaboration between Finland and the US, was designed to help facilitate communication and connections between these Arctic regions.
Laura Ditto is from Anchorage, Alaska, and has always considered the Arctic to be her home. She graduated from Alaska Pacific University in the Spring of 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in creative and professional writing and a minor in environmental science. With her knowledge in writing and science research, Laura is interested in making complex scientific ideas more accessible through journalism and uplifting unheard voices in her community.
In her off time, Laura enjoys getting outside and staying active, as well as crafts such as knitting, which she plans to do a lot of in the coming winter months.
During the internship, Laura will help organize events, keep the AAC screen at the University of Lapland updated, enhance communications and networks between arctic regions, and expand her own knowledge on Arctic issues across the globe.
