The materials include a background article and two graphics. The graphics help visualize the overwhelming number of external and internal forces that Tribes and Tribal members deal with daily. The article covers other factors including: capacity limitations at Tribal organizations, the complex governing system within Alaska Tribes, and the climate grief that individuals and communities may experience.
The resources are intended for researchers, academics, and federal and state agency personnel working in rural Alaska — especially those doing climate work. Tribes, Tribal members, and Tribal regional organizations may also find the materials helpful when educating the outside world.
The resource was developed as part of Adelheid Herrmann’s postdoctoral work building capacity in rural communities to respond and adapt to climate change.
