Prior experience in the analysis of SAR and sea ice geophysical datasets is required. Prior experience in microwave scattering modelling (e.g., SMRT) and experience in machine learning is desirable, but not required.
The successful candidate will contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary research project dedicated to the development of Ku- and L-band SAR to map sea ice properties, with focus on geophysical properties such as snow, surface roughness, flooding, and ice ridging. The candidate will have access to novel surface and airborne derived radar and geophysical property datasets and will have opportunities for field work, including funded airborne and ground validation initiatives in 2025 along with participants with foci spanning remote sensing, climate, and social enterprise domains. The candidate will also be expected to participate in the development of NASA-ISRO (NISAR) mission data, as well as initiatives related to future Ku-band SAR missions.
