The International Polar Tourism Research Network (IPTRN) strives to generate and share knowledge, resources and perspectives on polar tourism, and strongly supports collaborations across geographical contexts and between its members. Our bi-annual conference and community tour, held since 2008, is an opportunity for academics, practitioners and community members to meet and share the latest research and perspectives on tourism in one or both polar regions.
The 8th IPTRN conference and community tour will take place in Arctic Sweden from 5th - 9th June 2024. The event will be mobile, meaning that we travel through a few different locations in the region, holding paper presentation sessions as well as engaging with tourism stakeholders in local communities and conducting field trips. We pride ourselves on the local connections we make in the communities we visit, and strive to use the meetings for mutual sharing and learning.
The theme for the 8th IPTRN conference and community tour is Making Polar Areas, addressing the various ways in which polar areas are undergoing change (spatially, environmentally, politically, etc.). The program for the 8th IPTRN is still under development but updates will be published on our website as soon as they are finalised.
