University of the Arctic (UArctic) and Arctic Economic Council (AEC) are together searching for two motivated and enthusiastic interns for fall 2018 who are interested in Arctic matters and willing to acquire knowledge of the northern region, and its responsible economic development, people and culture. The internship will provide an environment in which the intern can develop, enhance professional working and communication skills, as well as expand networks for the future. AEC and UArctic are both network organizations created to strengthen and support circumpolar collaboration in their respective areas of responsibility for the benefit of a strong and resilient North. UArctic and AEC offer a collaborative, inspiring and international working environment in another Nordic country.

The University of the Arctic (UArctic) is a cooperative network of universities, colleges, research institutes and other organizations concerned with education and research in and about the North. UArctic promotes northern voices in the globalizing world, reflecting common values and interests across all eight Arctic states and among all northern peoples and cultures. UArctic promotes cultural diversity, language plurality and gender equality while highlighting the partnership between the region’s indigenous peoples and other northerners.

The Arctic Economic Council (AEC) is an independent organization that facilitates Arctic business-to-business activities and responsible economic development through the sharing of best practices, technological solutions, standards, and other information. AEC works to facilitate responsible business and economic development of the Arctic and its communities. The goal is to share and advocate for best practices, technological solutions, and standards. AEC’s goal is to facilitate responsible business and economic development of the Arctic and the wider circumpolar and non-Arctic business communities.

The call is now open for two intern positions: one joint internship placement will be at the UArctic Research Liaison and Thematic Networks Office (at the University of Oulu in Oulu, Finland) and the UArctic International Secretariat (at the University of Lapland, Rovaniemi, Finland), and the other at the Arctic Economic Council Secretariat in Tromsø, Norway in fall  2018.
