Participants from members of the network also included the University of Aberdeen, University of Helsinki, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Northern (Arctic) Federal University, Murmansk Arctic State University, Sámi University College and UiT The Arctic University of Norway.

The symposium included a 'poaching ideas' session with leads of other Thematic Networks, such as Arctic Law, Health and Well-being in the Arctic, and Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design sharing their practices and experiences with the members of the new network. Staff from the UArctic Secretariat and Thematic Networks office also gave insight into how other Thematic Networks have worked, and some of the supporting services that support networking and cooperation in UArctic.

Building on their own ideas, and the examples shared by the other networks, the members made excellent progress in defining their own concrete objectives and planned activities for the future work of the Thematic Network. Co-lead Tuija Turunen of the University of Lapland's Faculty of Education concluded, "We have made an excellent start to our work and are excited to move ahead with our plans."
