Mairina Kalina of NArFU will lead the new UArctic Research Office, and notes that the office will be an excellent tool to promote research opportunities, identify areas of collaboration, and foster regional science policy development. The office will take the lead for UArctic's cooperation with the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and the
International Arctic Social Sciences Association (IASSA). This development will also facilitate cooperation on Arctic science with the Arctic Council Working Groups, the Nordic Council and European Union.

The new UArctic Research Office will open in Arkhangelsk, Russia at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NArFU) with a seminar to be held during the Arctic Forum, September 21, 2011. The theme of the seminar will be, "Perspectives on globalization in the Arctic - a challenge for adaptation" and include prominent speakers from the Arctic scientific community.
