The universities in Tromsø and Arkhangelsk included an agreement on cooperation during the Norwegian Days in Arkhangelsk in September. At the meeting in Tromsø the parties discussed a strategy for further cooperation on research within areas like climate change and ecology, technology for oil and gas production, geology, biotechnology, and aquaculture and bio resources.
Rector of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University (SAFU) Elena Kudryashova and the Head of foreign citizens training Section in the RF Ministry of Education Oleg Isayev negotiated in Tromso with the Rector of Tromsø University Jarle Aarbakke and the President of the University of the Arctic Lars Kullerud, SAFU writes on its web site.
The Russian Ministry of Edeucation promised to give 15 Norwegian students grants to study at NARFU in 2011. It was also decided that the University of the Arctic will open a research office at SAFU next year, which is to become a platform for international cooperation within research and technology in the High North.
The next meeting between the two universities is planned to be held in Tromsø in January 2011 during the Arctic Frontiers conference.
