The last white patches on the map are in the far North, representing large areas with no national boundaries or governing laws.

The conference focused simultaneously on the development potential facing the Arctic region and the environmental challenges it presents. As such, it was a prime venue for stakeholders with interests in circumpolar issues.  The themes of the socioeconomic programme attracted speakers from Russia, EU, US, Canada and Norway - and about 500 participants
attended.

The second Arctic frontiers conference will take place in Tromsø in January 2008.
